Starting Point: a safe place to explore faith

Thursdays, 6:30-8:00 pm, Student Centre

Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, Nov. 7, 14, 21, 28

Exploring faith should involve asking questions.

When it comes to exploring faith, it’s natural to have questions. Unfortunately, church is sometimes the last place you want to bring those questions. We’d like to change that.

You’re invited to join the conversation in Starting Point. This eight-week group experience is designed and facilitated by people who have been where you are, wrestled with their own faith questions, and understand the value of creating a safe, judgment-free environment for you to explore faith.

Winter-Spring Growth Classes

Rooted

12:30-2:00 pm, Sundays: Jan. 19, Feb. 2, 16, Mar. 2, 16, Apr. 6, 27, May 25, June 8, 22

Meeting Room – Brookswood Church

Acts 2:42-47: All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.

Acts 2:42-47 displays a powerful picture of the first church living out 7 rhythms of discipleship that deepened their relationship with God and helped them live out their faith.  Through the Rooted Experience, we learn to live out these 7 rhythms of Daily Devotion, Prayer, Repentance, Sacrificial Generosity, Serving the Community, Sharing Your Story, and Worship through individual and group experiences. If you want to grow closer to God, this is the group for you.

Session Outline:

  1. Vision – Kickoff
  2. Who is God?
  3. How does God speak to us?
  4. Where is God in the midst of our suffering?
  5. There is an Enemy
  6. How can I make the most of my life? Pt. 1
  7. How can I make the most of my life? Pt. 2
  8. How does God view money?
  9. Why & how should I tell others?
  10. Why is Church important?

Practicing the Way: Solitude

Sundays, 12:30-2:00 pm, Meeting Room

Jan. 26, Feb. 9, Mar. 9, 30

Distraction is one of the greatest threats to spiritual health in the modern world.

We all feel it — we’re bombarded by noise like never before. Jesus has an invitation for us: Step away from it all to be alone with Him, for the sake of our souls and the sake of others.

Join us for this 4-session exploration of the spiritual practice of solitude as we learn to follow in the footsteps of Jesus and learn to spend time with the Father, away from the noise and busyness, and nurture our souls. Each session includes teaching, discussion, and weekly exercises to grow in this practice whether you are brand new to solitude or have been practicing for years.

Registration (including materials) is $10, payable however you normally give to Brookswood Church and designated for Discipleship. For more information on how to give to Brookswood Church, please visit: brookswoodbaptist.com/give

Practicing the Way: Fasting

Sundays, 12:30-2:00 pm, Meeting Room

Apr. 13, May 4, June 1, 15

What if we are missing out on one of Jesus’ most essential practices?

Fasting is going without food for a set amount of time to awaken our body and soul to our deep hunger and need for God. It’s one of the most powerful — and neglected — of all of Jesus’ practices.

Join us for this 4-session exploration of fasting as a spiritual practice, modeled by Jesus Himself. Each session includes teaching videos, weekly exercises and readings, additional resources to go deeper, and group discussion so we can encourage one another and practice together.

Registration (including materials) is $10, payable however you normally give to Brookswood Church and designated for Discipleship. For more information on how to give to Brookswood Church, please visit: brookswoodbaptist.com/give
